Kid Friendly Things to Do in Sedona

Updated: Jul 17, 2022

Sedona is one of my favorite places to visit. My husband and I have been visiting yearly since 2017. It’s a great destination to bring your family to explore the beautiful red canyons with endless activities.

Here are my top recommendations for kid friendly things to do while visiting Sedona.

Slide Rock State Park
Slide Rock is a great place to cool off from the summer sun. As the name suggests many people visit slide rock to enjoy the natural slide that has been carved into the mountain basin. Although famous for it’s natural slide, Slide Rock is much more than just a swimming area; it’s also a nature preserve, fishing destination, and hikers' playground.

Kids between ages of 6–12, can also become a Junior Ranger here which includes a fun activity sheet for them to fill out during their visit. If you are visiting the park in the Summer I recommend arriving at the park slightly before opening as the wait to get into the park can be hours long due to very limited parking.

Personal Tip- The water levels vary along the river and the rocks can be very jagged. I recommend wearing protective jogger shorts and water shoes to avoid cutting your legs and feet.

Jeep tours
Sedona is famous for their jeep tours. There are multiple companies to choose from which offer unique adventures like Vortex tours, sunset tours, sightseeing tours, educational tours and many more. During these tours you will experience some off-roading with panoramic views of the beautiful painted Canyons.

Here are a few options
Pink Jeep Tours
Red Rock Western Jeep Tours
Safari Jeep Tours

Personal Tip- Check Groupon for discounts on Jeep tours as they usually list cheaper deals.

Hiking
Sedona offers some of the most beautiful hiking trails. One of the benefits of this is that you can make these hikes as long or short as you like. I recommend using the All Trails app to filter hikes by distance, difficulty and kid/stroller friendly hiking.

Recommended Kid Friendly Hikes under 3 miles:
Sugar loaf Loop - Easy
Oakcreek trail - Easy
Bell Rock pathway - Moderate
Crescent Moon Ranch - Easy

TlaquePaque Arts & Shopping Village (pronounced T-la-keh-pah-keh)
Tucked away near the Oak Creek River lies the perfect little shopping village made of stucco walls and cobbled stone walkways. The village is filled with unique artisan shops, galleries and dining experiences.

Resorts
Another great way to enjoy Sedona is staying in one of the many resorts that have pools and offer fun family activities. Many hotels offer daily activities like paint nights and family movie nights by the pool for their guests.

Out of Africa Wildlife Park
Located about 30 mins away from Sedona is a wildlife reserve. We personally have not had a chance to visit the park however I wanted to share as it seems like an activity kids would love. The park offers you to visit free roaming exotic animals and some of the following experiences.

Tiger Splash®
Creature Feature
Giant Snake Show
Wonders of Wildlife Show
African Bush Safari
Predator Feed

Happy adventuring!
